The park itself houses the Columbia Icefield glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, mountains, and hot springs. The park was named after Jasper Hawes. He operated a trading post for North West Company in the region.

The park itself covers 6641 square kilometres made up of coniferous forest, alpine landscapes, mountainous terrain, glaciers and icefields. Located inside Banff sits Lake Louise, the crown jewel of Banff National Park. Named after a daughter of Queen Victoria, the Lake was originally named Emerald lake. The lake is one of the most visited and photographed in the world, and is home to the world-renowned Chateau Lake Louise owned by Fairmont.
One of the most beautiful drives in Canada goes between Lake Louise and Jasper named the Icefields Parkway. A stretch of 230km takes drivers through beautiful scenery including lakes, glaciers, mountains and waterfalls. You can take advantage of various points to stop and explore the landscape.
